Rowdy Members
A couple minutes before the meeting started Joe Quinton and Jeannine Pike stood up and started making a big fuss by hootin’ and hollerin’ something about he’s a winner and to give him the money now! With Grant being the exceptional leader that he is, he told Joe to sit down and wait for the meeting to begin. Everyone else attending had the same feeling. Though, the group was in distress mode since they have found out their number did not win the big money for the GWRRA Number in the newsletter. Whew, things settle down enough to organize the start of this meeting. Guess if Joe didn’t settle down, he would have been threatened with the show of some handcuffs in Grant’s hands.
Meeting Begins on Time
Grant starts the meeting only to be interrupted again by Joe doing his hootin’ and hollerin’ dance letting us again know that he found his GWRRA number in the newsletter. Okay, okay, he wins the $20. Joe sits down with a big smile on his face. Jeannine had a big smile, too.
Intro of Guests
Grant was proud to announce all of our 12 guests tonight. But really, he was happy for one thing - his trailer has been sold to one of our guests here.
He introduced Tim & Treva Byrd and Tom Anthony from Chapter “R” in Ardmore (one of them are the new owners of Grant’s trailer). He then hesitated at the next guest as he had no idea how to pronounce his last name. He said “Kent” and then paused. So, he asked him how to say his last name. Kent said “Dalrymple”. Grant was still in pause mode digesting what he heard. We all know that he mentally tried to say what Kent said, but failed. He just said, “Anyway…” and rambled on something about gambling. Looks like Grant didn’t have an Easy Button with him tonight. The crowd chuckles with enjoyment. He explains how he saw Kent and his cycle somewhere and influenced Kent to come to the meeting. He continues on with the guest list by letting us know that Scott & Joyce Turner are from Elgin. He did say he has known Scott for many years and whatever he says about Grant is a lie! Okay. Next was Chuck & LuAnn Bennett from Ninnekah. We had Kris and Lexi, grandkids with Tom & Paula. Grant failed to mention David & Jennifer Clark from Lawton.
Wing Ding Next Year
Grant announced that Wing Ding 2009 would be in Tulsa at the Fairgrounds. Planning needs to be done early enough in order to get reservations at a motel close enough to the site. At next month’s meeting, he will have a sign-up sheet for those interested in getting a block of rooms at one location.
Kathy said she has already been online to look a little bit. So far, most motels will not accept any reservations this far in advance.
Grant thinks it would be good if we, as a group, could wear the same color T-shirts to help identify our chapter.
Kathy said that Lezlie Wright is working on something for us. She will get back with us as soon as possible. Kathy said next month she will have more details.
Boar War • Oink, Oink
Grant wanted to bring attention to the fact that a co-riders needs to know how to ride, and make sure she doesn’t shift her weight to one side, etc. So, Susie pops up to say she is getting Billy some training wheels. This is based on the story in the newsletter about Susie crash landing while Billy cautiously tries to park it on a slope outside of the Meers store. At least we can say that one little piggy went to market. And then one big piggy, named Billy, was in the doghouse.
Cracker Barrel Anger
Grant was irritated at our last breakfast there. It took them well over an hour to serve our group of 14 people or so. Grant wrote a letter to the company and did get a reply back with a coupon for two free meals. It appears the restaurant just wasn’t ready for customers when they actually opened at 6:00 am.
Plaque
Grant will be ordering the plaque soon and should have the plaque in our hands next month.
Rides This Past Month
Grant let everyone know that we have had several rides this past month and everything was successful except for one minor incident with Sam’s brakes locking up. Luckily Dave was riding and he came to the rescue by unbolting this, moving that a 1/4 of an inch, and retightening it all up. Sam was able to continue riding again.
1-800-4BIKERS
Grant and Kathy talked some about this free program which will possibly help a biker in trouble in an accident situation. Call this number to get a free membership.
Doy and Darliene Getting Ready for Trip
Grant asked if Doy will be bringing their hummingbird feeder with them. Doy said they are going all the way to Michigan to see family and friends. They’ll come back by way of Tennessee and Arkansas.
Back to Cherokee Country
Grant said that he and Kathy went back to Tahlequah to visit one of the places that we didn’t get to see on our Cherokee weekend ride.
Cherokee Weekend Ride Review
Sam thanked everyone who went on the ride. Sam also wanted to thank the Chipmunk who was very entertaining and worth his weight in gold.
Kathy asked if we have written a thank you note yet. Sam said “No.” Kathy thinks that this would make a wonderful story for Wing World magazine. Somehow she manages to volunteer Wes to come up with some wonderful writings. Kathy and Angie said they will come up with some thoughts to write upon.
Rider Educator
Max passed out some literature concerning accidents nationwide. He spoke about the different Levels for GWRRA including the total number of miles ridden. If interested in getting more info, download the forms from the GWRRA website.
Officer Thoughts
Wes has nothing to say. Grant did say he liked how this month’s newsletter looks like. He added for our guests that our newsletter came in first place at our District Rally last October.
Saturday Ride! Ride!
She and Tom are planning on a ride Saturday to grab the three spots in western Oklahoma for the Ride Oklahoma booklet. So, we will ride up to Enid picking up the spots on the way up and one on the way back. Leave Cracker Barrel at 8:00 am.
50/50 Drawing
Winning tonight’s money is: Wes. The crowd moans and groans! Why are they complaining that Wes won? It’s been more than three years since he won that 50/50. He goes home with $65.
Stillwater Booklets
If you still want to join the Stillwater Oklahoma Rides, give up your $10 so Kathy will mail it off. She will then receive the booklets and get them to you.
Ardmore Speaks
One of the Ardmore guests spoke briefly about their chapter meeting dates and time. They meet the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm. He did say that our newsletter was exceptional! Then Kathy just had to voice her opinion by saying “Wes doesn’t need to hear anything like that!”. Again, the crowd roars its approval of her comment. He continued on to say they are participating in the Ride Oklahoma. His chapter is doing something similar called “We Are the Roadrunners”. The object os to go to different towns that start with the letters in the word ROADRUNNER.
A Commercial Break
Now that Grant’s trailer has been sold, he ranted on about anyone interested in buying a 2003 Illusion Blue Gold Wing, he knows where there is one for sale.
Door Drawings
Cracker Barrel coupon Dinner for Two given away. A kickstand foot rest was given away. A trike owner was the first winner, but declined since a trike doesn’t use it’s kickstand. A booby prize of a pencil and something else was the last prize up for grabs.
